3-D Final Project  by Chad Armstrong

Motivation- Create a unique space environment that reveals a futuristic feel, further illustrating people's dependency on the machine.

Inspiration- Before I began this project, I read a StarWars book solely on bounty hunters, in this many foreign worlds and elements of humans future adaptation to space were suggested.

Reference materials- StarWars, Beyond the Minds Eye Videos and Various shots of moons, planets, intergalactic scenes found randomly on the net.

Work Techniques/Strategies - First I created a landscape and environment with moons. Following I designed futuristic buildings that were based on earlier sketches. Carefully placing and organizing in a format designed for inserting two previously designed figures; the Flox and the Unibot. Both of the props, the Flox and the Unibot are critical to adding life and meaning to the scene. Before inserting these images I moved and organized scene elements in various poses, again and again until eventually settled on one. The chosen layout was centered around an icon symbol that is repeated on various other objects throughout the scene. I felt this iconic symbol told a story of the life behind the city, and of the people there. It relays a entity or power of significance that the people follow and support, thus having a machine like electric appearance, that further suggests the underlying principle of man's dependence on machine. Following, I used lighting, textures, materials and the arrangement of objects to lead the viewer into the center stage of the icon.

With this modeled scene, I spent most time tweaking lighting, shaders, textures, and materials so they complimented the scene. With all models in place, tweaking the scene became a frustrating problem. Through collaboration of others I have learned some useful ways to work around this; wireframes, use of few sided polygons, referenced and templated layers, and deleting history. One of the trickiest areas I experienced was with the lighting on the moons. In lighting the moons I tried adjusting several methods to achieve the wanted look, such as adjusting glow, ambience, and reflections, until eventually concluding with a fog effect.

Excalibur's Corner
Excalibur's
Corner- A retirement condos for wealthy upper class with beautiful view of landscape.

Icon Symbol
Icon Symbol- Symbolic icon that the community cherishes for it signifies harmony and unity of man and machine, the cornerstone of their existence. Located in the center of the city it is surrounded and connected to the civilian market place.

Flox with Ballower Towers
Flox- Spaceship that is extremely versatile with abilities to maneuver in and around the city for maintence and high speed capabilities for intergalactic travel.
Ballower Towers- The recreation centers for the community full off bars, gyms, theaters, and eateries.

The Government Building and Shield Towers
Government Building- The building is colored in gold and brown to distinguish power and character. It is also designed with a skyscraper resemblance for an ancestral look of the people's heritage.
Shield Towers- Used to protect city from space environment. Tear drops open up to create protection bubbles that shield the city.

Air Purification Generators
Air Purification Generators- Powerful Generators that convert the planet's air into critical, breathable air for the city. More of man's dependence on machine.

PROP FIGURES

Flox
Flox- Using the Flox I feel complimented the scene adding both life and movement to the SpaceScape City. I debated on the color choice; rather to use sort of the given colors that blended into the scene or to show bright or varied colors that distinguished the Flox. I chose to use to keep the blended colors that makes the viewer look into the scene to discover the Flox. One idea that I have pondered was to place the icon logo on the ship; only when on the ship appeared trite to the scene, therefore the icon was left out. In the future fire particle effects and motion would be interesting to add to the ship.

Unibot
Unibots- Protectors and maintenance up-keepers of city. Using multiple images allowed the scene to portray the repetitive action of the machine as it works maintaining the city. This has more meaning and significance than just one solo unibot.
